Healing is not linear! Seeking professional mental healthcare services are not the only ways people improve their mental health! There are a variety of ways seek mental healthcare. What is your therapy? View below ways that you can heal suggested by Fresno State AAPI students!

Spiritual Health
Some AAPI households pray and wish to their ancestors for better health. For example in traditional Hmong households, you may see the practice of "Khi tes/teg" or string tying as a way to wish someone good health.

Somatic Therapy/Activities
Examples of somatic therapy can consist of patting the head or hugging yourself. This is to provide comfort for oneself.

Herbs/Teas
Drinking specific herbs and teas can help improve your wellbeing. For example alleviating stress and anxiety and improving cardiovascular health. Common herbal teas are (not limited to) : lavender, chamomile, green, jasmine, and rosemary tea.

Gardening
Gardening, especially for our elder AAPI folks provide a sense of autonomy and independence which improves confidence and decision making for our elders.

Community
Building community gives access to support, social interaction, connections, and helps provide a safe place for you to be yourself!

Yoga
Yoga is seen as postures that improves flexibility and strength but it helps with your mental and spiritual. It helps you focus on the inner peace, awareness, mindfulness, and calmness. You can start at home from any social media platforms, attend community yoga sessions, or paid sessions.

Meditation
Meditation is a practice which helps you redirect your focuses on the ongoing thoughts and emotion that goes in and out in your brain everyday. This practice helps you achieve clarity and keep emotionally calm. It is typically seen as sitting down on the ground or grass with your legs cross and your hands out on your knees. However, it can be presented in any way you feel what is more confortable. It does not have to be complex but you can practice mediation at home or outside with soft sounds. There are many different mediations depending on what you want to heal but the ones referred by your community are Focused-Attention Meditation and 432 Healing Hzt (frequencies sounds).

Prayer
Traditionally, you can send a pray for help or healing by filling a cup/bowl of raw rice and light incense(s). You can start a prayer by intentionally directing who you are asking help for (God, Buddhist, past relatives, other beliefs). Then you can start explain your situation or issues that holds you in a heavy state of mind and ask for guidance, clarity, and patient.
